We stand in solidarity with all Blak, First Nations, Palestinian, Jewish, Arab, and Muslim creatives and allies fighting for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and freedom for Palestinian people.
We operate from a position of deep respect as Indigenous and non-Indigenous settler migrants in Magandjin (Brisbane), standing on the stolen sovereign lands of the Yuggera, Turrbal and Quandamooka people.
We acknowledge and pay our respects to their Eldersโpast, present, and becomingโ in their wisdom, protection and traditional custodianship of all the lands, waterways, and skies across these regions.
We extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
We acknowledge the significant contribution and labour of Yuggera, Turrbal and Quandamooka artists and creatives in our community and the critical role they play in the expression, protection, and transmission of their living cultures.
We acknowledge the history of invasion, occupation, genocide, and the ongoing impacts of colonial state violence existing today, both across the seas and here, across this stolen land that we call home.
We acknowledge that the struggle for a free Palestine is tightly bound to the ongoing struggle for Blak sovereignty in this country and we are committed to the actions of mutual liberation, enduring solidarity, and truth-telling.
Who We Are.
Magandjin (Brisbane) Creatives for Palestine is a community-led initiative to unite Magandjin creatives in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
Aimed to foster an enduring community of collective care, truth-telling and action with Palestine, whilst each participant also embarks on their own creative projects in support of the cause.
The First Gathering is an event that marks the first community action and the beginning of Magandjin Creatives for Palestine.
An Offering from Magandjin Creatives to Palestine.
ุณูุงู Salam and ู ุฑุญุจุง Mar7aba!
Magandjin Creatives for Palestine welcomes you into the First Gathering, ุงูุชุฌู ุน ุงูุฃูู.
A seed that has sprouted from the journey of transforming feelings of powerlessness and loss into 'tajamou3', an Arabic verb, the active act of coming together and uniting behind a shared cause.
The First Gathering responds to an urgent call-to-action to support Palestinian refugees arriving from Gaza on temporary visas. Magandjin creatives have answered this call, offering their creations as part of a fundraiser. Creations will be exhibited and sold at the event and via an online shop. All proceeds will be donated to TAQWA, a grass-roots Palestinian run initiative which supports refugee families arriving from Gaza, and Mindle Bygul Aboriginal Corporation, who support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community of Deception Bay and surrounds.
The First Gathering is grounded in Palestinian voices, music, and food from across the Levant โ a space that connects us together through truth-telling, hope, and action. We welcome you.
Donations
Proceeds from all creation sales will be donated to TAQWA, a grass-roots Palestinian run initiative supporting refugee families coming from Gaza to Australia.
โThe genocide being committed against the people of Gaza is horrific and ongoing. Some families from Gaza have been granted visas to come to Australia, to get away from the bloodshed and murder.
Donations will help settle them in Brisbane and cover daily life expenses including paying rent, buying furniture, home appliances, clothing and everything they need to start a new life in a safe place.โ
Part of the proceeds raised at The First Gathering event will also be donated to Mindle Bygul Aboriginal Corporation (MBAC), an Organisation that supports and advocates for and on behalf of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community of Deception Bay and surrounds. MBAC plays a critical role in supporting the whole of families to identify local, current and future community participation opportunities that are relevant and meet community needs.
โMBAC builds the connections between First Nation Families and agencies or organisations that provide services and activities in or to our community.
To ensure that MBAC best represents our community our strategies are developed to produce a local response to identified need and assist in developing, delivering and evaluating local action plans. Every Board Member and all employees of MBAC are invested in and involved in community capacity building and development; education and skills training; information and referral support; information provision; outreach and home visits; resource development; straightforward and complex referrals and individual support.
MBAC continually emphasises the importance of social and economic inclusion in the broader community to contribute to and maximise the health, well-being and development of strong First Nation families at a local level.โ
